Let’s “Pluck the Days” While We Breathe
I prefer “pluck the day” instead of “seize the day” I suppose because I’m a gardener at heart, a lover of beautiful flowers, animals, scenery, and people.
Many poets, singers, and film makers have used this age-old theme. From Shakespeare to the “Dead Poets Society”, life is celebrated minute by minute, day by day. I fear we have lost the urge to enjoy life because of Trump’s threats to destroy everything we hold dear. I would like you to choose to “pluck the day” or “seize the day” referred to as “Carpe diem.” As we approach the dreaded Trump circus presidency, we must “pluck” every morsel of happiness out of every moment of the days ahead.
There is always something to celebrate in these dark times.
For pure joyful times—let’s dance with Zorba the Greek and spread love to our friends. Pluck the day!
Which film, song, poem, or activity provides you with a brief respite from the news? Can you relax and focus on living in the moment or are you too stressed to enjoy every person, food, place where you happen to be? Do you meditate, listen to music, walk or exercise, travel?
Here’s my simple approach: sleep and nap, eat well and drink wisely, spend time in the phone talking instead of texting (texting is the opposite of enjoying every moment you hear a friend’s voice which may not be available once they die). I’m happy replaying voicemails of someone I lost last February, and it renews my joy of his presence and love. Think ahead. What will provide you with peace? Photos? Pluck out your photo albums. Re-live them. Time spent with memories is not time lost. Live looking for simplicity.
