Lighthouses In the Storm
As we change gears after a very upsetting election, escape the good way. Reading the solid stacks that are always dependable. Leaving Substack would not make us wiser or happier. Unify! Blue!
Dear Blue Notes subscribers,
Some of these stack stars you may already know if you’ve been with me. For new subscribers, I am happy to introduce my friend Armand Beade whose historical and political perspective drew me to his work long ago. He’s solid and a joyful gentleman. You know I love read and learn, and you’ll enjoy him when you’re up to reading. I understand if you’re in recovery because I am too.
You must nurture your mind and your heart first before we can activate our active protests against injustice. Peace to all. I will be redesigning and tinkering with this stack soon. Godspeed to you. It’s always darkest before the dawn they say.
is a bringer of light through his deep dives on “Popular Information”always researched well. He’s brilliant. brings light through every day’s “Letter from An American.” I am addicted. She’s indefatigable and a 100% American treasure. She alone has educated hundreds of thousand of readers and viewers. Her book “Democracy Awakening” is perfect re-reading as we recover. She reads the audio as well. brings passion and a political insight which the Democrats should have taken more seriously in “Enough Already.” brings her legal eagle expertise in “Civil Discourse” which too many in each party should have read and practiced. Even now we must aim to be civil even more as we fight the good fight.Listen to her #SisterInLaw podcast which came out today. I felt better hearing them discuss their aftershock and how to cope with what’s coming. It’s the unknown to some degree, but we are smart enough to be well-read and have our community bound by pro-democracy
I’m sitting with my puppy and my husband watching classic movies. Some find comfort in Hallmark movies. Spiked eggnog is at hand. Britbox is always fun. We have gotten behind on our reading lists; tomorrow I’ll select a big book for recovery before Thanksgiving. Trump stole my 2020 Thanksgiving and Christmas. No more oxygen for him. Zero.
What’s your recovery plan look like? Be kind, be safe, and remember you are wonderful democracy fighters who are smart and action-oriented. Don’t stoop to Trump’s level of uncivil discourse. Work on being understanding and civil. It’s hard, but we can do this!
Bonus—a non-political song!
A blue song “I Will Rescue You”
And for inspiration— a French classic!
March on, Citizens!
Last? Les Miserables sung with 17 Jean Valjeans! Sing along! Amazing! I think I might re-read the book and watch the movie. I’m feeling like recovery is coming!
Diane, I add this--even as I agree with you: As Trump’s inauguration looms, as his threats to create detention camps loom, as prison stocks rise, as he plans to deport thousands from our nation, separating parents from their children looms,
Let us hear Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller (14 January 1892 – 6 March 1984), German theologian and Lutheran pastor, whose words appear on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial:
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out – because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me."
We must speak out to save democracy and condemn inhumanity.
Oh Diane ~ listening to 17 Jean Valjeans sing their hearts out to thunderous applause... what I didn't know I needed this morning. Thank you, friend.
