Saturday Puppy Love
Time out day for thinking about a new member of the family! Making out lists of what our coming puppy will need. It’s been 12 years since we did this!
It’s been difficult grieving for our our precious bearded collie Paddy. We debated whether we were too old to get a puppy. We finally said what is life without a dog? We’ve always had dogs, and our vet says we are the best dog parents ever. That’s why my head today is filled with planning. We bring Winnie (after The Pooh) home the first week of September.

Winnie is one of seven girls in the litter! If you want to know more about her remaining sisters for adoption, message me. We could have substack sister dogs power😂
Thank you for being pro-Democracy, pro-Kamala Harris and Tim Walz💙🇺🇸💙 You are probably working hard trying to get the vote out! I may take pup Winnie door to door with brochures —who doesn’t want to pet a merle blue 💙Winnie?💙
I feel a bit guilty posting puppy photos of a new puppy. So for the record, here is a photo of our beloved Paddy when he was feeling great. We miss him
Thank you all for being part of the Blue Notes community. You fill my heart with hope and joy that you care about the direction this country must choose to break away the Trump chains forever let’s get the blues on—blue hats, shirts, signs💙🇺🇸💙! No ear bandages for us! 😎🇺🇸💙Your fellow traveler, Diane
How beautiful you have a sweet new girl puppy. It is the best homage to the ones who've flown up to give another dog the same kind of beautiful life you've given before. I read somewhere recently that when dogs are really little infant puppies, they are attached to dogs as primary family--and all through their lives they will have a great love of fellow furries. In the absence of humans, they will form packs. But what the research shows is that dogs and humans have traveled together for so long now that within six months of birth, a dog will seek a human with whom to live: that the *primary* family unit for a dog migrates from canine to human, and that dogs are happiest if they find a human primary companion or a whole family to whom they will attach, hopefully for life. In some incredibly vital way, we complete each other. What a lucky little puppy she is. And what a good person you are, Diane: it shines in everything you do.
Congratulations! She is adorable. I wrestled with the same dilemma after my best girl died in February. I planned to adopt an adult dog, but a puppy in need became available, and here I am with two large, lively dogs under the age of two, at a time when I am no longer young. Sometimes I feel guilty that they are not in a family with children. However, we see lots of friends and neighbors, go hiking and swimming, so they are living a good life, even if I am a less than perfect companion. Have fun with Winnie!
