The Bearded Collie Who Owns Us
Why deny it? We thought he was ours until one day my husband and I agreed —we are his devoted servants!
Paddy is his name and love is his only game. Kisses and cuddles he prefers to toys and games. He was groomed today, happily home and ready for dinner. His servants are often forgetful, but his clock is freakishly more accurate than all our devices. He gives us a 30 minute warning by quietly staring us in the eye until I move to the kitchen.
When the time changed, we changed the clocks. Paddy adjusted without missing a beat. He’s psychic! He watches and intercepts silent messages and hand signals between my husband and me. If I’m planning to go to the store, he gets in my chair when he sees the purse. He stands at attention when the mail truck comes up the hill. Hint. Get the mail!
Paddy gets a puppy cut though he will be 11 on December 23rd. We are already aware he’s aging with arthritis like us saying it must run in the family. Everyone needs a comfort dog, cat, bird or creature to love. Too many have no human or animal to comfort them. Cherish those close to you because you’ll be the ones rescued in the end.
Such a delightful and touching story about Paddy! He sounds like an absolute gem. This is a beautiful reminder to cherish those who bring comfort and love into our lives. Thank you Diane.
He looks so handsome and friendly-tell him I said so, Diane.
