Truth is a rare pearl
"Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth." Wm.Faulkner
Faulkner speaks of the power of honest and compassionate people to change the earth by telling the truth, but these virtues are as rare as pearls these days even in courts. It is up to us, who know the truth about injustice in our bones and hearts and minds, to fight for the truth.
Here are a few quotes about recognizing truth when you hear it.
“A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~ Charles Spurgeon
"It does not require many words to speak the truth." ~ Chief Joseph
"Fear is not in the habit of speaking truth." ~ Tacitus
"Who speaks the truth stabs falsehood to the heart." ~ James Russell Lowell
“ You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” Abraham Lincoln
Yet we have the Trump_Cultists-Enablers which prefer to believe lies and tell lies without remorse. So why are evangelicals and many Catholics still believing Trump is a savior of religion in America? It’s worthy of study because we have friends who are nice people who are duped beyond hope. Walk away? Do not engage in arguments? Yes. You cannot stop the spaghetti from dripping off the wall once it begins. Let it fill their floor, not yours. If they begin drowning in ketchup, let it be.
I wrote an earlier piece on the tunnel vision of one-issue voters, those whose focus on abortion or immigration reigns. They don’t read or care about threats to America’s security or relations with other countries. They don’t care if their leaders lie, cheat, steal from non-Christians as long as they triumph on their top issue.
Annually near the end of January we have the March for Life in DC which is an opportunity for pro-life politicians, not just evangelicals and Catholics to fire up their base. Emails will be sent out in all 50 states with invitations to churches. The pro-choice groups will be there too. Watch local listings, or tune in to EWTN or Fox. There’s no doubt there will be hopes of winning over voters. You probably know that list of candidates who are anti-abortion have been sent out for years.
Trump and the Maga-cult have used the pro-life community to garner votes promising them victories. The tunnel vision Trump-cultists can’t help themselves. Leave them to their bubbles. It’s revolting to people who have a broader, more humanitarian, and patriotic view of the world beyond the front porches and Foxy Entertainment.
Here is a famous biblical quote on lying by the way which seems to be ignored:
“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Revelation 21:8
How evangelicals can read these words and then cheer on Trump and other lying “Christian politicians” is mind-boggling and disturbing. It is causing many Americans to doubt or leave their faith.
We must ignore these single-issue voters and their drama. Let’s focus on listening and being actively engaged with reasonable and honest people. There are plenty of struggling Americans who need your wisdom instead of the TrumpClub’s twisting the Truth as well as tarnishing our national identity. Vote 🇺🇸💙🇺🇸
The inclusion of quotes that highlight the essence of truth and its importance resonates well with the message you are conveying. Well-articulated and impactful!
Diane K24: "Fear is not in the habit of speaking truth," was said by Tacitus in his "Histories" about the tyrannical Emperor, Domitian, who, for example, put some Stoic Senators to death.
To read Tacitus -- his Annals and his Histories -- is a moving and sobering experience, since his work begins with the death of Augustus Caesar (Annals), when memory of freedom in the felled Roman Republic was still fresh, until the time of the Four Emperors and Domitian (The Histories), where after the death of Domitian there was a return to more tolerance of free speech. It was in the context of having lived through the trauma of Nero through Domitian that Tacitus -- who was a Roman Senator -- spoke.
