Where Are Affordable Puppy Trainers Hiding? A Non-Political Post!
We made it through 9 months of the puppy chew-everything in sight. I suppose it’s another year plus to go. Our previous dogs (bearded collies) never chewed or barked. Then came this gal!
Winnie (the Pooh) is a miniature Bernedoodle with more energy than 10 NFL teams. We love her, yet we must have been a bit crazy to get her after our beloved bearded collie died last summer. She’s a full-time job. She’s never resting unless she’s napping. We are old and have to schedule household chores, shopping, showering and meals around her schedule. Our vet said she’s ADHD but brilliant. That’s nice, but how to we cope long term? She’s 9 months old, housetrained, and a spoiled lover.
Bless her sweet heart! We are searching for a trainer to teach her how to walk without pulling, tripping, going crazy with an old owner who had 3 joint replacements already. We so far can’t find one in KY, OH, WV, VA, NC that will keep her a couple of intense weeks of training without robbing a bank. $3, 000 to board and train makes me think that all unemployed people need to take up dog training and get certified! Of course, no good Samaritans have volunteered to train her where I live. It will take a strong trainer for this 35 pound wild child. The other and last choice is to return her to the wonderful breeder for re-homing.
I’ve been an animal person from the start following in my grandparent’s and parents’ footsteps. Cats, dogs, birds, chickens, guinea pigs and hamsters. Of course dogs and cats have been my first loves.
Winnie is 9 months old, and she is a delight distracting us from all bad news! Sadly, now that’s its spring we are worried about her rambunctiousness on the leash. The fear of falling for me is 100% because if I had an accident and had to be hospitalized, my non-mobile arthritic husband cannot cope with taking care of her. It’s distressed us to the point that we feel sorry Winnie’s owners aren’t young, stronger, and active dog lovers. Well, that’s where we are. I’m calling one place today, but it’s iffy.
