Listening In A Waiting Room
You learn so much sitting in hospital waiting rooms. Sometimes what you hear is heartbreaking. Other times it’s hilarious to hear exchanges between family members you don’t know. Political talk isn’t.
The snowy roads kept many away today, and conversations across the aisles were too easy to hear. I kept my head down while checking email and Substack. Those on cellphones or sleeping outnumbered the loud talkers a room away. Older people with hearing problems talk louder. I’m in the green.
Here’s the gem I overheard & recorded while my husband was getting his back injection. I cleaned the grammar.
Man: Well. Only the crazies would go vote for Trump in Iowa anyway. We are living in religious la la land, d#m#t!
Woman: So right! All of the criminals and perverts want him to make them look better. When ministers talk him up, well, you know something is rotten, very rotten. Wonder how many have left those churches?
Man: My family for one! We couldn’t sit there and know some of our acquaintances had sold their souls to Trump. They acted like he was “anointed” by God. One old lady even said so. We quietly left and I guess people thought we had gone or died. They didn’t care.
Woman: Sad. Sad. Well, Trump will go down the hot road to Hell.
As my husband came out, I stopped the recording—but I really wanted to hear the rest! They were smart cookies! Let’s keep the hope burning there are more people like these two people voting blue
I’m reading this in ER waiting room in Fl. Only 1 trump hat so far🤪
Great story, Diane. Those two give me hope.
