Last month we lost our beloved bearded collie, Paddy. We are still grieving though joy has re-entered our lives. We debated about waiting, but we are not getting younger. So, next month . . .
When our son moved out into his own place, he took Snowbell(e) the Japanese Akita with him. I lasted about 3 months and we adopted Sully (full name Sullivan) the Lab from a local shelter. He was about 7 at the time. He came fully house trained and has had only the one "accident" when he had diarrhea in the first month. It's just about 2 year now so he's 9 and both Heather and I agree that he is the sweetest guy we know. Since then, Snowbell(e) has developed lymphoma and eventually could no longer walk on her own and had to be put down. He got a Japanese Akita in January of this year.
And yet, we continue to give our hearts to them even knowing that they are not likely to outlive us. Parrots are an exception, I'm told. And White Cat has been with us for over 20 years and shows no sign of slowing down (not that she was ever too lively).
Oh, did anyone see the article where President Jimmy Carter said he wants to live past his 100th birthday on October 1st, so that he can vote for Kamala Harris? Now that’s an endorsement! Should be all over blue social spaces. Maybe it’s just me, but I was very moved by that.
Winnie will be a perfect furry bundle of love. I’m happy for you. Paddy left all the good smells to welcome Winnie, and it will be comforting for her. Love her name. Agree, no reason to put off loving another dog. I would be fail miserably at dog fostering also, as I would want to keep them all.
Dogs are incredible little beings and are a gift that adds so much to our lives. A joyful new beginning that you so richly deserve. Happy tails!
If I was Paddy I would be frolicking just beyond the rainbow bridge in celebration of you and your husband having found Winnie!! Much love to you both and your new pup!!
Diane I am so so happy for you and am crying Paddy tears because well...he became dear to me too through your stories and I can feel his love cavorting around you still. Winnie is precious and will give you just what you need to heal. Sending love and light your way. When you see her next, please kiss her nose for me. I am imagining that one of a kind puppy breath as I type. HUGS!
Thanks, Jena💕The two breeds look a bit alike—if I can find the right puppy photo of Paddy to compare, I’ll share it. We are excited and now we must puppy proof the house since we’ve not had a little one for at least 12 years! 🐶💕
Wonderful news Diane. Winnie will help your hearts heal. One of the best things about moving back to the farm was to be with the two rescues we have. ❤️❤️❤️
Aww, sweet little Winnie is adorable! I always believe when you find "the one" after the loss of a beloved pet, that they have led you to "that one"! Paddy wouldn't want you to continue to grieve and having been the recipient of your overwhelming love, will be happy to see you now sharing it with Winnie!

It’s tough to lose a pet.

I am so sorry to read today about Paddy. I sure know this grief. I hope dear, sweet Winnie will help mend some of the pain.
Thanks, Tizz💕

Puppy!!! Perfect.
Oh this is so uplifting, Paddy is smiling down from heaven.
So happy for you!!!!!!
I babysat Crystal’s boss’s baby doodles for a year and, boy, was that an experience! A Purple Heart should be coming back my way. 💜🥉
Thanks! 💕

I was personal friends with a Bernese Mountain dog. They are wonderful but BIG! Hope you’re prepare for giant clumsy paws.
P.s. Pleas share updates regularly.
She’s a miniature bernedoodle—not the huge one. 30-45 pounds.
So important to make those plans to care for beloved pets. You just don’t know the future. Winnie is perfect! 🐶💙
Thanks, Sally! My husband has the photo as his screensaver where he stares at it often💕
