Platitudes About Gun Control by Politicians
In the aftermath of the Maine mass shooting, it’s disgusting watching politicians saying the same old platitudes to stop these shootings. Talk is cheap.
Here are the platitudes that drive me up the wall and back. How stupid do the NRA and Congress think people are? The new Speaker of the House is a prime example.
Every American’s right to have a gun is protected by the 2nd Amendment.
Yes, I want to buy a musket now!
Guns don’t kill people: people kill people. Duh. Really?
Background checks would keep good citizens from buying guns. Say what?
We are sending prayers to the victims’ families and the town XYZ.
We will get the assault rifles banned if I win the election. Vote for me!
We don’t need to ban assault rifles, we just need to limit the number of cartridges (That way only 20 or 30 can be killed). Illogical & insane.
Classic excuse by the new Speaker Johnson: “The problem is the human heart,” he told Hannity. “It’s not guns. It’s not the weapons. At the end of the day we have to protect the right of the citizens to protect themselves and that’s the Second Amendment…This is not the time to talk about legislation.”

And the human heart is that of a white nationalist where govt is run by their religious ideology
Very good points Diane. In the UK we have a similar mix of population to the USA, with a significant proportion of the population that has mental health problems. Yet we very seldom have gun massacres. The only differences is that we have very tight control of firearms. And in any event, a correct interpretation of the Constitution does not confer the right of members of the public to have guns. Sadly nothing we say will change anything. It will not be long before we read the next harrowing account of another gun massacre.
