Substack must have a better reporting system for trolls and Republican-maga-conspiracy theorists. Marking spam doesn’t help. I suggest “Intentionally lying and spreading disinformation” categories.
I have been discouraged by all the hate trolls and religionists popping up on my feed. Thinking about leaving but I really get educated and excited about all the thoughtful writer who post essays here. No place seems safe to me anymore
Deb, I think vigilance makes a good reader a helper of others looking for safer people to read. I had to block 2 subscribers just now who had all maga reads—I guess we are all in this fight for making Substack better.
Diane K24: Yours is the post of a dear Friend, and a pooch's friend -- Winnie, arf! arf!
Diane: Months ago I complained about the suicide post on Substack hosted by just such a white-racist-Q-Conspiracy-fool. I complained and alerted others. To no avail.
Circa end of 2023, a group of good people left the Substack platform due to tolerance on the platform of neo-Nazi voices.
I believe I had been alerted to the nuts by an article in the Atlantic.
I was drawn to Substack first through a NYT feature about Professor Heather Cox Richardson. I had admired a lecture of hers on CSPAN that she had delivered at Boston College, I believe about Reconstruction. So, I was drawn to her; subscribed.
And then discovered that Joyce Vance, Esquire, whom I saw regularly on MSNBC, had her own 'Stack column. So I subscribed.
Then I found a clutch of good, solid people, like YOU, and subscribed.
Armando does the best he can with his little 'Stack, but has a busy, busy family life and life associated with the Goethe Institut (student). A shout out to really good people: In Atlanta: Börge Deist, Barbara Hager, Wolfgang Krüger, Angelika Otte, Levin Arnsperger (also with Emory University) and in Houston: Ute Höfl. Solid, good people, ALL! I owe them, each of them, much.
And YOU, Diane, are at the TOP of friends I value. You are a deeply good person with high integrity. I hope to be able to meet you some day. Below my own remarks are those of Susan Niemann. Susan is a GRAND LADY, and she is full of love and inner goodness.
'Stack is a faulty platform with major glitches and even hosts neo-Nazi posts.
But 'Stack brought me together with dear, dear and good people and friends, at the top of which are Susan Niemann and YOU!
Just an FYI, my husband and I voted yesterday in Georgia, and it felt so DAMN good! I also voted for Hilary, but I hope that my second vote for a female President actually sticks!
Thank you for writing about this Diane. Over the last several days there has been a significant uptick in trolls and bots. As Liz mentioned, the block function works wonders.

Great work as always, Diane!
Thanks, Gary! Let us get those blue votes out there!💙🇺🇸💙
Many I immediately block but some I can’t resist twisting their tails.
It is definitely worst the last two weeks.
Rats and reptiles have tails. Good!

Agree with you!
Do better, Substack. Dont mess up this platform.

If in doubt, I block too!
I’ve learned to make regular use of the block button on all the social media I’m on.
Me, too, Liz. I still think the app needs to address some options.
I agree.
Fabulous column. Thank you💝
I’m glad you see what I see too!
