Deer are loyal unlike some humans, and today has been a super duper day. Following up from an earlier post, the deer have been doing what deer do best: Live focusing on food, naps, and love.
Dian, I am thoroughly enjoying a momma deer and spotted baby fawn just getting its legs in my backyard through the patio window, munching the overgrown grass I refuse to cut since their habitat has been increasingly limited by recent neighborhood construction. Then I move to the kitchen window where I unexpectedly found an entire HERD munching on my Lariope! They’ve been returning for days and I am delighted! Great stress reducers. Keep posting pics of yours. Wonder if they’re getting as popular as Joyce Vance’s chickens! 🐓 Love all animals, so civilized, calming. ❤️🦌🐓
Judith, you are blessed! I learned yesterday that the 2 fawns I thought had been orphaned belong to Bucky and Hope! The fawns hide in the woods during the day while the adults eat & nap on guard in the day. I adore them.
Thanks for this Diane… so sweet to see them cuddling. Love you’ve named them! Reminding us to destress and find fun, get away from news is so important… this is the best thing on Substack right now… too many political posts…even from those who never mention! I just can’t! Getting outside helps! Thank you sweet friend… you know just what to say, when we need it most! 🥰🫶💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸💙🇺🇸
Thanks, Joan. I understand totally. I’m guilty of posting political worthies—but I know we need escape as much as politics. Right now I think we like-minded folks are preaching to the choir. Still, people tell me that cutting through the feed helps them determine what’s worth saving to read when they can stomach it 💙🇺🇸💙💕
I'm all in for treating each other respectfully and practicing self-care. I can't quite get on board with full acceptance of the roving deer. We have, as do many places, an overabundance. They carry the Lyme tick, which is also prolific and dangerous. (I've had five attached deer ticks already this year.) I'm not advocating inhumane treatment. I'm sad when I see what motor vehicles do to their populations. I'm not hateful when I talk to them. I just strongly suggest they take their browsing to an open field instead of my yard -- as I clang pie tins together and reapply deer repellant sprays to my garden areas. Then I remember that the open field belongs to a farmer who is suffering from the damage to his crops. There's definitely a metaphor here...!
Elizabeth, I understand! We see damage in the neighborhood after a 4 lane road came through taking their grazing land. It’s rough. In addition the top of our property was once an Indian and deer trail before the houses were built. We hope that by helping deer have a refuge, our neighbors will at least keep their 🌺
Oh my goodness. "We must stay healthy and relieve stress this week while the RNC is generating “distractions.” For every hour you read or watch the news, take 2 hours for something that makes you happy. Take a day away, then work to get the blue votes out. Save articles for when you’re not stressed. We have had TrumpFatigue for years. Let’s not do ourselves in now when we are really needed." You don't know how much I need to be reminded of this. I got very little sleep last night, I spent 6 hours investigating and writing about JD Vance. It's been over a decade...I am soooo tired.
We had one mommy give birth right in that spot a couple years ago. It's a long line of extended family. Also a ton of wild turkeys, and other critters up in Idaho.

Sound ecological advice.

Here's hoping! Thanks for your work, Diane.
💙Stay cool and calm. We have temps in the 90’s this week, and we are hibernating!
That’s a sweet video. Animals are great!

No more Trump fatigue. Great advice.
We must all stay collectively sane and productive, Sally💙
Thanks, Sally! We need to be free of him and his schemers. I hope I don’t die before that happens!
Find whatever it is that sparks joy.
Yes!
They really are the sweetest characters. Here is my video of baby deer zoomies that went viral last year😻

Wow! I love to watch not just deer. I’m such an animal lover. Thanks, Lorraine!

Wild turkeys! Do they drink whiskey 😂
I doubt it but they drive me to drink!
