The first Trump presidency, I bit my tongue and stayed with most of my friends no matter how they voted. That’s what you do in a democracy, right? Respect differences? But this time? No. I’m done. And I don’t have much to say. I’m just done. I’m afraid enough of them now that I probably won’t run my mouth as much as I might want, and I’ll be too heartbroken to rub it in when the worst comes. At 73, I feel too old to move, but I don’t have to surround myself with the creeps. Some, I truly believe, don’t realize what they have done. Their brain is somewhere else or has been twisted by propaganda, which we are not fighting hard enough and is the real culprit for the Harris loss. So I will smile, but inside I am crying.

Thank you, smiling and I guess I will start writing postcards a little earlier—like January 2026.

Fake it til you make it

I work at a university in Alabama and baby they pushed it. I wore black I said I was mourning the death of democracy

Oh Celly, I looked up your profile and I am so sorry about your situation! I was born in AL and loved my cousins until I realized I couldn’t stop them from using the n word, even though I asked. So I stopped visiting. I’m in NE GA where the ignorance isn’t quite as bad, but the political beliefs are awful! I just wanted to call out my solidarity for you, friend. I am a white woman, retired teacher, married, and I live a pretty quiet life in my space with my husband. I do believe Diane has curated a safe space for us both here.

Alice, thank you. I am a retired teacher looking at massive ignorance and silent racism —but it’s there in their whole modus operandi voting for Trump, Republican Governor and Senator who will never reform. Sad.

My neighbor came out yesterday with a white sweater emblazoned with an all chest size flag —celebrating her Republican favorites. I think a lot of silent Trumpers like her will be showing their “colors”. No signs just gloating.

Thank you Diane K24 for your contemplative remarks. Some not necessarily related facts have had me scratching my head today. Joe Biden is still the President of the United States and will be until January 20, 2025. Donald Trump is NOT president and won’t be until 1/20/25. Trump still faces sentencing by New York County Supreme Court Justice, Juan Merchan, who adjudicated Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records and stated his intent to sentence Trump before year’s end. The US Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction over State matters. Is this an opportunity to dump trump off his carriage and prevent him from taking the oath of office?? I visualize the Three Witches of MacBeth:

“Double, double, toil and trouble

Fire burn and cauldron bubble.”

Any one have their landline?

As I read this newsletter I realized Diane is describing exactly what it was like being a closeted gay person in very hetero "christian" environments: smile, don't say much, omit personal information, pretend you don't hear certain comments... Only now instead of sexuality the thing closeted is democracy.

Diane, in case you or others are interested, there are Christian churches (I’m a member of one) that understand the dangers of white Christian nationalism and stand against it, in the multicultural and multiracial spirit of Jesus. To find such a church close to you, check the member churches of progressive associations like the North Carolina Council of Churches https://www.ncchurches.org/, the Alliance of Baptists https://www.ncchurches.org/ and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists https://awab.org/

So very true. My church is one of those of which you speak. Our motto is: All Our Welcome. And this is shown by how Guests are Greeted. Invited and Received. We have male, female, and dual sexes clergy. At various times color ranges and changes, is celebrated. We prayer for our Native American neighbors, of whom we share land boundaries. Frequently have Clergy from missionary countries and churches and schools.

Thanks, Betty. Thank goodness there are still progressive churches who fight the fight against Christian nationalism.

I am really good at having a poker face when dealing with my MAGA colleagues (and I have plenty of them)

Very well said. Trying to stay calm and be gentle with myself as I move forward in disbelief of what I never thought the results would be. Crying inside.

You sum up my empty feeling today. I never thought women would choose the worst example of manhood in history.

My wife is so upset that she’s been crying all day in bed. Trump & his voters will pay for this.

I understand. After all of the door knocking, rallies and zooms—it hurts.

Sadly, Came home to condo again to find a Large political Sign draped on a balcony of our Building. Huge Letters of the candidate “voted” in by a shockingly, by enough to be returned to office .

All such material is against Community Rules. This is the same Building, Community, where, different unit, this was reported a couple months ago. Promptly removed when I left a pleasant request, with the office, having noticed a sign. Hoping, this will be Respected again. VM left. Honestly, feel disgusted, and Disrespected. The owner Knows the Rules. Did the 1st time. Flaunting them then. Again. Bragging now.

David, I’m 77 and would prefer to die when we have a Harris/Walz ticket if I can make it to 2028. Of course I would precious if the yellow man were behind bars as well as the SC justices who declared presidents had immunity. It what he’s wanted all along. We are too old for drama.

I am almost 60, and I too was hoping for an XX chromosome individual being in the White House, but alas, I think it is done for at least a generation, so I no longer harbor hopes

Don’t give up the ship—there’s a lot of work from home that can help Democratic candidates fight difficult disinformation and win 2028. Geoff, he may yet be jailed.
