For new subscribers, I’m sharing my favorite pro-Democracy substacks. Starred* are my 2 trusted & beloved stackers who attracted me to Substack. It took a year to curate my feed.
Thanks, Lynn! For sanity’s sake, I read though I wish we could vote sooner than 4 months. What stress! My fav authors are balm to my soul, and I hope you’ll feel peace too.💙🇺🇸
Pick a few and ignore others. I saw a guy on substack with a reading list of 600 or more. You know he cannot give equal time. Some people think more is better. I don’t. I would rather select a few and really read them.
Appreciate this list, Diane, and am smiling that I'm already subscribed to your two stars. :) FWIW, I also subscribe to The Weekly Dish (Andrew Sullivan) who is a gay, conservative Brit, for another perspective, and more recently, I added Tangle (https://www.readtangle.com/). Thanks for your work!
Thanks Diane! Your list is great. It is so important in these times to be informed. I have learned so much on Substack. It has given me the ability to be able to have a voice and speak to others.

Great list! Read most of them already. Anticipating the day I will have some novel idea that will gain traction and more subscribers so I can manage full on newsletter. Play with restacks, notes, comments and messages but my 76 year old brain a little in the woods with the absence of tech savvy enough for full on newsletter; my last big aspiration on this planet. Really hoping to look more at plastic pollution and fashion sustainability.
You can begin small and it will fall into place. I felt the same way, Judith. It helps if you aren’t trying to get paid. That would create such anxiety in me, I would never write, Judith! 💙🇺🇸💙
I also read many others on your list but as you said, time how much time do we want to devote?!! Some days more, some less. But those 3 plus Robert Hubble's Today's Edition Newsletter are always "must reads".
Thank you so much for what you are doing! We all need to read as much as possible from your suggested lists.

I think these writings are very helpful. I just have to find time to read more.

Thank you. I am new to Substack and appreciate the list. I had subscribed to over half of them already and just subscribed to the rest.
Thanks—these are great people.

Thanks! I’ll check them out, Elizabeth.
Thank you for this!
Thank you for being a positive light, truly.
I'm new to Substack, but hope, maybe, one day, to be included on your list!
In the meantime, I'll keep reading your posts. Thanks, again.
💙🇺🇸💙
Thank you so much for this.
Thank you, Diane.
Love these & Heather Cox Richardson is really informative also
Thanks, Bernie—Heather is my hero!

I’m in a red state, Monica, and it is nice to know more blue voters feel we have to win this election. 🗳️

I agree with your asterisks, meaning the best, the essential, for Joyce Vance -- "We are in this together" and for Heather Cox Richardson.
Thanks, Armand! I will check him out shortly!

Honored to make this list! Thank you Diane!
Great list— I subscribe to many of those mentioned and will check out the rest—thanks!
Well-done! Great list as we try to save democracy.
Now, can I get you to hang with me on _Who by Fire_? https://marytabor.substack.com/s/who-by-fire-a-novel
Certainly!
Your 2 favorites are mine as well. And to them I add Jay Kuo. Jay is on SubStack. Here is a link to his FB page. https://www.facebook.com/share/Zm5zfT5WcjpfMFs7/?mibextid=qi2Omg

Gosh, I forgot Jay—and he’s a favorite! Thanks!
Excellent Diane!
Thanks, Lorraine💙
Thank you for this list, Diane! I do subscribe to most of them already, but I found 3 I didn’t know about. I’m adding them now!
Thanks, Pamela! 💙
